Stuck inside with ‘Cabin Fever’ ? Need to get out and about with your favourite four legged friend for some exercise?

In our new world of social distancing and restrictions placed on just about everything we do outside of the house, it can be somewhat confusing to know what you can and cannot do outside. Thankfully, exercise for you and your pooch is still allowed!

However, in late March, the Australian Federal Government introduced tight restrictions around the use of public facilities, in an effort to reduce the spread of the coronavirus. As a result, many public facilities in cities have now been temporarily closed. These include playgrounds, outdoor gyms and even some public parks.

Are dog park’s included in all these closures?

The answer to that question is not that clear cut. From our research, it seems that the closure of certain public facilities is at the discretion of the individual local councils.

For example, Brisbane Council officially announced last week that dog parks, both fenced and off-the leashed areas are closed for the time being, however in other major cities, such as Sydney and Melbourne dog park facilities remain open and ready for use; as long as visitors to the facilities comply with the federal government’s social distancing guidelines.

Confused? We understand, so PatchPets are here to help!

We have reached out to all major metropolitan cities in each state, as well as many regional cities to find out which facilities are open and which have been closed temporarily due to the COVID-19 situation.

*NOTE – It is up to each individual to adhere to the advice announced from the government in regards to social distancing, personal hygiene and limiting time in public spaces. We will be updating the below table daily as the latest information becomes available.
